In the Spotlight: Emily Broughton

Q&A with Emily

How long have you worked at Roberts Environmental?

I began my work experience in February and have now been working at Roberts Environmental for just over 6 months!

Describe your role within the firm.

I am a geo-environmental consultant, and my day to day tasks include the provision of Phase I reports, Phase II Site Investigations, Due Diligence Reports and Coal Mining Risk Assessments. To date I have worked on site investigations for large residential developments in Northumberland as well as Due Diligence reports for larger London based portfolios. There is a good balance of office work and on-site work, which I really enjoy.

What attracted you to a career in the geo environmental sector?

My geography teacher at college was very passionate and sparked my interest in the subject, leading me to go on and study geography and environmental management as an undergraduate degree. I enjoyed being out doing field work, collecting samples and then analysing and interpreting my results. I was eager to learn more about the technical side of things and so went on to study environmental engineering as a postgraduate degree. All through my time at university I had an interest in contaminated land and completed two dissertations focusing mainly within subject, including remediation strategies that could be used.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy the variety of tasks that I can do, from working in the office writing reports to being outside on-site sampling and logging or gas monitoring. Working alongside a varied group of people definitely makes the job more enjoyable and being in an open plan office, I know I can ask for help and guidance from anyone, at any point.

Which three famous people, living or dead, would you invite to a dinner party?

Heath Ledger, Adam Duritz and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Name your top 3 albums of all time

Counting Crows ‘August and Everything After’, Van Morrison ‘Moondance’ and Damien Rice ‘My Favourite Faded Fantasy’.

When you’re not at work what do you like to do?

I like to spend my spare time being outside as much as possible. I enjoy walking, exploring and travelling around as much as possible. I have a keen interest in photography and spend a lot of time reading. I also absolutely love music and it’s not very often that you will find me without my headphones in or listening to music.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
