Our role was to identify any potential contamination issues and assess the type of foundations that would be suitable for the proposed schemes, which ranged from between 4 and 33 homes.

The sites comprised of mainly agricultural land and in some cases incorporated temporary storage buildings.
Our investigations involved a mix of sampling boreholes, trial pits and a soakaway assessment.

Based upon the findings of the ground investigation works, we determined that conventional strip foundations could be utilised for four of the five sites. At the fifth site it would be necessary for the foundations to be excavated down through the topsoil and founded upon the Bowland Shale Formation.

One of the sites, located in the village of Marton cum Grafton, featured a pond and in the event that the pond area be built upon, further intrusive works would be required to determine the nature of the underlying ground conditions in that area. Across all five sites there were no contamination issues identified.
